Bodonkey II Series week 1 is in the books

Only 26 suited up for Thursday’s Bodonkey making it a little easier to wade thru the Bodonkey minefield. But not easy enough for me as I picked up the Gigli in this one running an overpair into Skidoo’s runner flush and TPGK into Yestbay’s set of 5’s.

Bodonkey II is off and runnin’

43 Joes suited up setting their sights on Poker Pro Eric “Rizen” Lynch’s $75 bounty in addition to the added T$.

Rizen made it thru to the final two tables of Tuesday’s Bodonkey somehow getting past LJ’s mighty Q3o after shoving all-in pf. LJ came over the top to isolate but, her Q3 did not hold and “Rizen” doubled thru with AK.

This was the chat when we were brought together to the final two tables prior to that hand.

Rizen: I need a courtesy double up smokkee
smokkee: well looky what we have here
raisydaisy22: wOOt bounty!
smokkee: it's like Christmas in Oct
Rizen: I apologize in advance for the bad beat
smokkee: ya me 2
LJ played her Q3o well because I was going to call Rizen’s shove with 28o but her overshove forced me out. I would of caught a boat. An absolute terrible fold on my part.

A few hands later, LJ got all her chips in again vs. Rizen. This time showing 5-5 vs. Rizen’s Ad-Jd. Presto held one time and LJ picked up Rizen’s $75 bounty.

gg Rizen

I ended up busting shortly after shoving A-5o when it was folded to me in the SB. NewinNov woke up with 6-6 in the BB and I was done for the night.

When the final table was formed, “good” Wonka had a MONSTER chip lead dwarfing the rest of the table’s stacks. But, he doubled a few players when they got short-handed after the money bubble burst. He finally got HU with 23Skidoo. Skidoo was not afraid to gambool and almost took out Wonka with the hammer after flopping a deuce against Wonka’s A-5o but, Wonka spiked a 5 on the turn to continue HU play.

Wonka finally succumbed by jamming A-4o into Skidoo’s A-T and Skidoo took down the opener of the Bodog Blogger Series II.

Final payouts for Tue 10/28/08:

1st: 23Skidoo $172 + T$109
2nd: WilWonka $103 + T$75
3rd: CEMfromMD $68 + T$50
4th: Columbo777 $51
5th: AskDrL $34

RaisyDaisy, NewinNov and sTONe10 pocketed T$11 for the 3 money bubble spots.

A big thanks to Eric "Rizen" Lynch for taking time away from his busy schedule and family to sit down with us. You're welcome back anytime Eric.

Thanks also goes to BuddyDankRadio for covering this and future Bodonkey events.

Don’t forget to register for Thursday’s Bodonkey at 9:05 ET 10/30 for more monkey shoving fun.

Guest Bounty on Eric "Rizen" Lynch next Tue Oct 28th

play a hand with "AJKHOOSIER1"

In the most recent CardPlayer magazine (Oct 14th, Vol 2/No 20), AJKHoosier1 discusses a hand he played in Full Tilt's $14k Guaranteed tournament ($75 buy-in/6-max).

Blinds are 600-1200/150 ante, 5 players are seated with three players seeing the flop

Player/Stack sizes/Hole Cards:
AJKHoosier1 / 43,003 / 8s-8d
LegalEagle1 / 122, 452 / unknown
Eazy1Mike / 41,985 / Jh-9d

LegalEagle1 limps in pf, easy1mike completes from the SB and AJHoosier1 checks his BB. the flop brings 8c-7s-4c and eazy1mike leads out with 2,222. AJKHoosier1 smooth calls and LegalEagle1 calls behind. The turn is 4d and easy1mike who led out on the flop OOP now checks. AJKHoosier1 bets out 4,400, LegalEagle1 calls and Easy1Mike check-raises to 17,989. AJKHoosier1 obv calls and LegalEagle1 folds. The river is a 9s and eazymike1 ships it all in, AJKHoosier1 calls.

When i was going through this hand, it was apparent to me that i would've played it differently pre/post flop. With two limpers in the hand, it seems like a good spot for a squeeze with 8-8 and the flop is very draw heavy. Even though he flopped a set, i would've re-raised Easy1Mike's donk bet instead of smooth calling.

But, that's why i'm writing here and not for CardPlayer.

Here are AJKHoosier1's thoughts pf:
"It does figure, i'd bump it up, i'm going to get flatted (flat-called) a lot, which would basically be a nightmare with a medium pocket pair OOP, since most flops are going to be ugly and really tough to play. So, i keep the pot small, treat my hand like 2-2 and just try to hit a set and get paid big since for the most part, these guys are calling stations."

AJKHoosier1's thoughts after the flop (8c-7s-4c):
"I only lose to 6-5 and yeah, the board is draw-heavy, but you can't play your hand out of fear. You need to play your hand optimally. Also at this point, there's really no reason to assume that anyone has a big draw of any kind and I thought i'd look too strong if i bumped it up here in a limped pot against the guy who's leading out into two other players and a guy left behind me. I wanted to keep him in and give him a chance to do something silly, like a post-flop squeeze.

"it definitely paid off to play my hand counterintiutively on literally every street, since most people would raise pf with 8-8, then raise the flop with a set and slow down when they filled up. So, I did the opposite."

AJK just described exactly how i would've played this hand. I guess i need to be doing the opposite more often.

:D

Captain Disposable Income

While there are so many things I don’t miss about my old day job, there is one thing that I do miss.

disposable income

I used to take off for the weekends without much consideration about how much I might spend. For several months during 2000-2002, I would fly off to Vegas on the weekends and gamboool while clubbing and drinking with friends. Money wasn’t really important to me at the time and I had no significant other. The money could always be replaced; after all I had a stable job with good benefits.

It was all a lie.

No one’s job is “permanent”, everyone is expendable. heh

Now I play thousands of hands a week hoping to make the rent and pay my bills without having to dip into the savings. It’s stressful, a lot more stressful than having my old “regular” job but I do it anyway.

Sometimes, I wonder why and how I got myself into this. Then, I realize I’m very lucky to be in the situation I’m in. My wife loves me dearly, my family will always be there for me and I’m doing what I always hoped I would do. That's what keeps me going.

I feel like i'm on an "island" most of the time and some days are so much harder than others but, I still try to do my best to get through each session, every day….day to day, month to month, that’s how I make it through. One hand at a time.

Gavin Smith is one of my favorite live tournament players.

“This is just a game where you’ve got a lot of disappointment and you’re gonna go through horrible horrible horrible runs and there’s gonna be times when everything goes bad. I think it’s really important to remember that you ended up getting the title of being a decent or good or great player by doing some things right and you just gotta keep trying to do those.

I’m fortunate enough to have the greatest set of friends that anybody could ever have. They’re super supportive and they remind me that I have actually accomplished a bunch of shit in poker and I am pretty good. Sometimes when you’re running bad you forget that. It sucks if you’re one of the guys that is isolated and you’re off on your own and you’re starting to believe you’re not any good and you’re forgetting that you are pretty good. You don’t have that circle of friends just to remind you?

That’s hard.”

Gavin Smith / PokerRoad radio 10-15-08 podcast

Gavin made the final table of the WPT North American Poker Championship held at Fallsview Casino Resort, Niagara Falls

The final table is set to begin today at 4:00 pm ET.

Could there possibly be a bigger jackass in poker ?

after watching tonight's ESPN coverage of Day 5 of the 2008 WSOP Main Event, IMO Phil's got the title of all-time biggest jackass of the poker world locked up.

when Mike "the mouth" Matusow is telling you you're "way out of line", i think it's time for the 11-time bracelet winner to sit down and STFU.

if you missed tonight's episode, Hellmuth was moved to a very tough table with Matusow, "Chino" Rheem and a Romainian player who had a tendency to over value soOted junk. it was the perfect recipe for Hellmuth to act like a tilt monkey.

This was the hand that set him off:

Romainian guy comes in with a standard 3x pf raise in EP with 10-4 sOoted. it folds around to Hellmuth who 3-bets with AKo. Romainian guy calls and the flop comes 10-high. He bets out a little more than half the pot and Hellmuth goes off mucking his hand face up. Meanwhile, the Romainian shows Phil the mightee 10-4soOted, the entire table erupts in laughter and Hellmuth goes apeshit calling his opponent an "idiot" at least 5-6x. Hellmuth is stomping around when finally the TD comes over to calm things down but, Hellmuth continues to scold the Romainian until he finally goes off on Hellmuth.

I really don't understand what these pros think they are doing (e.g Scotty Nguyen). I realize they're playing for a lot of money but, their fans and new viewers are just going to get turned off by this kind of behavior.

I've never been a fan of Hellmuth and he may be arguably one of the best NLHE tournament players of all time but, who can look up to a "professional" who acts like a fuggin child whenever the cards don't fall their way?
TD's need to do a better job of enforcing the rules among unknown players and well known pros equally.

GL D-Rays

that is all

Halos live another day

wudda fuggin game.

The Angels don't make it ez on themselves, leaving 16 men on base thru 12 innings. But, getting two big HR's from Napoli and a HUGE performance from our bullpen to force a game 4.

that stoopid fly ball that dropped between 3 fielders in the outfield in the 2nd inning just created a bunch of unnecessary drama.

Josh Beckett? pfft

Vladdy got an extra base hit. Howie Kendrick finally got a couple of hits after striking out umpteen times. Figgy had a big game going 3-7 with a double.

Frankie made things interesting in the 10th. it's never fuggin ez.

Game 4 at 8:35pm ET

More of the same

....Halo blunders and missed opportunities against the BoSox in the post season.

It’s only game one but, the fuggin Sox stole home field advantage and now we’ve got an uphill climb. Being that the ALDS is a 5 game series makes each game even that much more important. It’s frustrating to see this team continue to get better year after year only to underachieve in the post season. I still have some faith left but, Angel fans are getting tired of this BS. I’m sure the owner is too after putting all that $$$ into this team.

WTF was Vlad thinking trying to get from 1st to 3rd on a bloop single over Youkilis’ head?

That play right there took the air out of us and the wheels came off shortly after.

..and yes my dad already called and clowned on me. Obv the fuggin Dodgers won on the road which makes it even worse.

I got another Royal Flush on ‘Stars in a $22/180p sng

Unfortunately, I only finished 15th in this one.

Halos take the day off to kick the dog. ALDS resumes 9:30pm ET Friday
