Back to our regularly scheduled programming..

I played a bunch of satellite's into PokerStars $650 WSOP Main Event qualifier over the last few days and got close several times but, couldn't close the deal. I thought i could save some $$. in hindsight, i should've just bought in direct.

Tina just told me to go ahead and buy in. But, I've spent the last three days getting beat down in satellites so, i'm giving up on it. I'd probably just end up getting coolered or taking it in the nuts in the $650 anyway.

I'm taking the rest of the day off to spend with Tina.

Back to grinding away next week. Best of luck to all playing in this year's WSOP Main Event.

I'm halfway there

the glass is half full and all that.

I've had a few offers but no where close to where i need to be if I'm gonna get there this year. There was a small glimmer of hope one of the online sites would pick up 50% of me.

that didn't come thru

At this point, it looks like the last ditch effort qualifiers running on PokerStars this weekend are my only real hope of getting there. Which really isn't a bad thing cuz i'd rather save myself (me and the little missus) $5k outta pocket.

So if i'm lucky enuf to get there, i'll be sporting PokerStars swag at the tables.

Like these guys did last yr.

visualizing myself with PokerStars swag.

Own a % of $mokkee in the ’08 WSOP Main Event

I had an important meeting with my Financial Backing Team (my wife) while in the Jacuzzi tonight. My team (Tina) brought up an opportunity for me to play in this year’s Main Event.

Before I get to that, let me say that Tina has seen me grow as a poker player and as a husband since we met over five (5) years ago. She’s always believed in my potential and my will to succeed. She’s seen me fail so many times along the way and pick myself up to continue the good fight. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better partner.

We’ve mapped things out around her school and it appears the best time for us to “work” on making another addition to the $mokkee.com empire would be this August/September. Our little man (hopefully!) will be incorporated sometime in June/July of next year. This means, it would be quite some time before I have another opportunity to play in the greatest poker tournament on the planet, 2010 or 2011 would be the earliest.

As some of you know, I’ve had several past successes in tournament poker. Most recently, I finished 3rd in Full Tilt’s 40k Guarantee. I’ve also had several top 5 online tournament finishes when I was mostly dedicated to tournament poker in 2006 including a win in Full Tilt’s 8k Guarantee. I also took down Commerce Casino’s Saturday $200r tournament a couple of months later.

I b-slapped FTP pros.

This is just a small sample of what I’ve been fortunate enough to make happen in poker over the years. It’s in no way a guarantee of future success. But, I know I have a certain drive and competitive nature to get the job done.

….now on to the “deal”.

This is the deal, my Financial Backing Team ($mokkee.com) puts up $5k/50% for my entry into the ’08 Main Event and you put up the rest for a percentage of my success but, no less than $1k increments. This makes it easier for all of us to compute our take home. You buy $1k of $mokkee, you get 10%. You buy $2k, you get 20% and so on.

I wouldn’t put this offer out there (and $5k of our own money) if I thought I had zero shot at cashing. The WSOP Main Event structure is sick, 2hr levels with t$20k starting chips. The blinds begin at 50/100.

Any of you who are familiar with my playing style know I don’t get all-in unless I have a huge hand. Taking coin flips in the 1st day with this structure is insane IMO. My plan would be to play small ball poker unless I flop a monster then, bet like there’s no tomorrow. Strangely enough (or maybe not), cash games have definitely helped me with my post-flop play in tournament poker. I’m not a push/pray donkey unless I get short-stacked.

If you’re interested in getting in on this deal, please email me at: smokkee@cox.net before June 30th.

By the way, I’m still planning to play satellites into PokerStars $650 WSOP Qualifier this Sunday (25 seats guaranteed). If I win my way in, you can still buy a percentage. If I don’t, maybe Bodog will pony up some cash for me to sport their gear at the WSOP Main Event.

If I’m unable to get together the full 100% / $10k buy-in, all backing money will be refunded promptly. You all know where i live.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

One time Pokah Gods, one time...

I was surprised to see the $27r's PokerStar's runs the day of their $650 WSOP Qualifier was a turbo structure. You get $1000 chips instead of $1500 and $1500 at the add-on instead of $2000. The blind levels are 5 mins instead of 15. Monkey push bonanza.

I registered for the 1st one i saw open anyway.

Over 100 fish jumped in this one with the top 14 finishers getting seats into the $650. I maintained my title as "King of the sorry sac who can't win a race on the bubble" and finished 18th (AJo < K6s; AQo < 57o). If i win one of those two races, i'm in.

Honestly, the most frustrating part of tournament poker is racing for chips. I try to avoid races but, there are so many situations late in a tournament where you really have no choice.

push and pray pokah sux balls

I really have no idea how i continued with tournament poker for so long. IMO it's a good idea to take shots at tournament scores but, you cannot consistently make money there. At least most of us can't. You'll end up bleeding down your bankroll trying to hit the lottery.

I made a promise to myself this year that I wouldn't spend a bunch of money trying to get into the WSOP. So far, i've done a pretty good job. Unfortunately, when most of my time is spent trying to qualify for a satellite and playing sng's so I don't have to deposit $$$ it can begin to feel like pokah purgatory.

PokerStars is running another 25 Seat WSOP Main Event Qualifier Guarantee next Sunday. If you think i won't bust my ass trying to get in, you don't know me very well.

Please poker gods, let me thru.

Just can't get enough

I played two WSOP satellites. One was a $69+6 on Full Tilt to their $500+35 Sunday Qualifier and lost a critical coin flip when we got down to two tables. Then i played a $27r on PokerStars and finished 7th with the top 4 finishers getting seats to the $650 Qualifier. I was the chip leader when we were down to two tables and ran into some bad luck at the final table (JJ < QTo; TT < AJo).

I really like the $27r satellites Stars is running. There's plenty of dead money and the structure is awesome (15 min blind levels). The tournament started with 46 players and only 29 made it through the rebuy period.

pretty funny.

I didn't do the insta-rebuy because i figured i'd be able to dubble thru some lagtard before the break. I went into the break with t$3700 chips and did the add-on ($25 for t$2k). So, i was comfortably in the middle of the pack at the break with only $52 invested. I got $77 for my 7th place finish.

I'm planning to give another $27r satellite a try before Sunday's $650 WSOP Qualifier kicks off.

I played both $15 token frenzies (4:45pm ET; 9:45pm ET) and got junk kicked after shoving pf (KK < AK; 99 < 88). Otherwise, i woulda played more WSOP satellites on Full Tilt.

EDIT: Today's $27r's have only 5 min levels.

Wake up people

I've been mixing up a new concoction for breakfast. Diet Pepsi Max + Myoplex Vanilla Protein Shake.

good shit!

I'm not really a breakfast person but i found that by the time afternoon rolls around, i start to get sluggish. Most of it is just cuz i really am a slug. As most of you who saw me in vegas could probably tell, I haven't been to the gym in quite a while. I used to play hoops twice a week and go to the gym at least 3x.

I'm not about to make any resolutions here except that i'm gonna try to start eating better.

We don't eat terribly bad now but, there are a few things I need to cut out such as snacking late at night (which is the worst) and indulging on the weekends. if i just replace fries with a salad everytime, that will make a difference.

What i really need tho is more exercise. but, i'm having a difficult time getting motivated. i used to have a workout partner at my old job and a bunch of guys who played hoops at lunchtime. i have to get self motivated now.

But, it's hard to pull away from the PC with WSOP updates flowing in, Dr. Pauly live blogging, PokerRoad podcasts/video blogs and Euros splashing around at the virtual tables.

switching gears

While i still think the Bodonkey was a huge success, i'm very disappointed with the end result. Our TOC winner chose to pass on playing the greatest tournament in the world for $500 USD.

The contest rules clearly state:

FINAL ROUND PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUE:

One (1) GRAND PRIZE:IF the winner wants to participate in the WSOP Main Event, funds for buy-in to the WSOP Main Event ($10,000) and $2000 cash for travel.( Approximate retail ("ARV") $12,000USD);

OR

IF winner does not wish to participate in the WSOP Main Event, $2500 cash.(ARV $2500USD).
I never even considered someone might take the $2500 instead of the Main Event seat, lesson learned. Next time if we're lucky enuf to have a next time, we'll either have a 2nd chance tournament for the seat or it'll go to the runner up. I'll probably put up a poll to get everyone's opinion on that.

To be clear, Bodog is keeping the seat. The TOC winner passed on it so it goes back on the shelf. Believe me I fought hard trying to get the Main Event seat to the runner up or at least have a 2nd chance tournament this time around. But, the rules are clear and I can't change them.

PokerStars and Full Tilt are running WSOP qualifiers this weekend (June 22). PokerStars has a 25 seat guarantee this Sunday ($650 buy-in) and Full Tilt is running their $500-35 qualifier Sunday as well. There's also tonight's WSOP 1k Qualifier on Full Tilt.

I'm trying to satellite into all of the these.

Vegas Summer '08 Follies Finale

Highlights:

-Astin goes deep into Day 2 of Caesar's MegaStack
-LJ and Iggy win seats to the WSOP Main Event (online)
-I finish 2nd in Planet Ho's nightly lucksac monkey jam tournament
-Bottle of Champagne delivered to our room Sat night (anonymously)
-Tina and I have dinner at Mon Ami Gabi

Entering our room Saturday night exhausted and ready for bed (pic from our room), we come across a cold bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries that were delivered by room service several hours prior. The ice was almost completely melted but the bottle was still cold. There was no card or note so Tina immediately got on the phone to room service to identify the culprit. They had no record of such a delivery, therefore no name. If someone we know did have that sent up, our sincerest thanks. If it was indeed a screw up on the part of room service, I run goot!

:D

Since we were dead tired, we decided to save it for the morning and have mimosas with breakfast in the room. But, Tina just couldn't resist the urge to take in one of the strawberries. It put a BIG smile on her face and we were off to donkey dreamland.

Since it was our last day/night in Vegas, we decided we'd treat our selves to breakfast in bed and a nice dinner that evening. Another thing I wanted to do is buy Tina into a cheapo lucksac tournament so she'd have a chance to play a little poker without risking any of her own $$$. I told her going in not to have any high expectations. The nightly low buy-in tournaments are luckfests with terrible structures. I figured we'd both end up donking out before the 1st or 2nd break and watch the end of the Laker game before dinner. The game was also running on all the TV’s in the poker room.

Breakfast arrived and we were in donkey heaven, having breakfast with mimosas (anonymously comped) relaxing in the room. One thing Tina truly enjoys is room service. I make sure we have breakfast in the room at least once whenever we're on vacation even if we're only off for a weekend.

After breakfast, we walked over to Caesars and I got seated at a 1 / 3 NL table immediately while Tina checked to see how Astin was doing. CK immediately shouted my name from a table across from me. I put my name in for a table change but, it never happened. CK told me later her table wasn’t that good anyway.

Tina finds out they’re down to 2 tables in the MegaStack. This is after about 2hrs of play in day 2. Astin’s got 16 hrs invested at this point.

Tina runs off to the Forum Shops to see if she can find a Victoria’s Secret while i donk around the cash tables.

The table I’m at is extremely nitty. There’s one English guy who keeps just calling with TPTK, 2p, etc. The only time he EVER re-raised was on a J-J-T-A board after the turn. He then got all-in against the other guy when a Q hit the river. English guy tables Q-J for the boat. The other guy mucks K-J. cooleriffic

I got involved in a hand with the same English guy later when I flopped a set of 3’s against his 2p. I bet every street cuz I knew he’d call with any decent hand. I scooped a $100 pot from him and probably coulda got more. It’s difficult to determine the strength of a guy’s hand when he just calls. Oh well.

Tina comes back a short time later and says she’s ready for a nap. Since I feel like I just woke up, I pass and she heads off to the room.

After bleeding down a few chips trying to see flops, I limp from EP with 7d8d. There was a lot of limping at the table and it rarely got squeezed. One other player calls along with the blinds and the flop comes 6d-9d-Jc, a monster flop for me. I check and it’s checked around to the BB who makes it $20. He over bets the pot which was only $12 before his bet. I saw him do this in a prior round when he flopped 2p on a draw heavy board. I considered pushing but I only had a little less than $200 behind, he’s probably not gonna fold 2p and I really don’t want him to. Caesars plays a bonus to high hands such as straight flushes. So, I just call. The turn brings a brick and he bets $30. I call again and the river is a J. That right there is a friggin bad beat it my mind. This guy dodges half the deck but nails one of his 4 outs for the boat. Live pokah is rigged.

Astin stops by a little later to say he busted before the final table. Well done. That tournament is a friggin marathon. I don’t think you’ll find a better valued $340 tournament anywhere. But, be prepared to strap in for a long couple of days.

6pm rolls around and it’s time to head off to meet Tina for Planet Ho’s lucksac monkey jam NLHE extravaganza, $80 buy-in with 20 min levels and 5000 starting chips. Blinds start at 25/50 and skyrocket from there. 20 minute levels gets you one full orbit at each level most times. The tournament starts with only 41 players. I guess more people decided to watch the finals instead.

The very 1st hand I pickup T-T utg and make it $175. I get one caller and the board comes all low cards. I bet $350 and he calls again. A (T) hits the turn. I don’t slow play sets esp in a monkey push tourney so I bet out $1100 and he calls again. OMG I’m gonna dubble thru on the 1st friggin hand! The river is a brick and I make it $1500. He thinks for a while and folds. WTF ?!?! I figure he musta been stuck on AK but, he said later he had pocket Jacks and felt like he was up against a set. I don’t believe anyone’s folding an over pair in one of these and just chalk it up to BS.

My table is pretty active. Some guy already got caught trying to bluff another pot with AJ losing 2/3rd’s of his stack. With the blinds at 50/100 an older guy who sat down late and missed most of the 1st level min-raises UTG. I look down at pocket 8’s and make it $600, he cold calls. The flop comes 8-T-J rainbow. He checks and I bet $1000, he calls. The turn is and Ace and he check raises me all-in. Obv I call and he shows A-Ts. Thanks for playing.

I’ve got over 12k in chips in the 3rd level and some players are already getting short. An older guy in the CO limps after it’s folded to him. The SB comes along and I look down and JackAce sOOOted! I raise my monsta from the BB to $600. Old guy calls, SB folds. Flop comes A-K-x with 2 hearts. I bet out $1200 and this guy insta-poooshes. I mean he couldn’t get his chips in fast enough. Since I’m not ever folding TPGK in a monkey shove pushfest, I call and he shows Ac-4c. well played, nh gg.

I walk over to Tina’s table to see how she’s doing and she’s down to maybe 800 chips. I ask her “any luck?” Already knowing the answer and she says “ya, bad luck. Does that count?”. Bad beat therapy at break time.

I walk back to my table and some guy limps in EP, I limp with QTo on the button. SB folds BB calls and the flop comes T-high. The guy in EP checks really fast. I don’t know why but I thought he might be slow playing an over pair. BB checks too and the turn brings a 9. It checks around and my previous suspicion is out the window. I bet almost the pot, $450 and BB calls. EP limper goes away. The river is a bee-yoo-tee-full Q. BB checks and I bet out $1000 and the BB goes all-in. Since there’s no way I’m ever folding top 2p in a monkey shoving contest, I call and he flips K-J. He dubbles thru.

While this was going on, Tina stopped by then walked off. We go on break and I walk over to see what happened. She said she got her AA snapped off by 99 after betting it the whole way. I told her ahead of time not to slow play anything good in this. The problem was the board was all low cards and this guy’s 99 looked like Aces to him. He rivers a 9 and took most of her stack. Later she got all in with 88 and ran into 9-x. Of course a 9 peels off on the flop and she’s done. She is freakin steaming.

I come back after the break and don’t see many playable hands. Before I know it we’re down to 2 tables. The one good thing I will say about this tourney structure is there are no antes. That shit always slows down the game and when you only have 20 min levels, it makes a HUGE diff. The blinds double each round but, I’d rather see that than monkey shovers having to be reminded about antes during each hand.

I think I was able to steal one pot during that level but I also dubbled a shorty who limped with QQ. I woke up with 7-7 in the BB and put him all in. The sick part is we both flopped a set and I started calling out a “7” for the turn and river. Everyone laughed.

We get to the final table and I have less than 10 bb’s. the blinds are 500/1000 and ready to shoot up to 1000/2000. after 5 hands I pick up AQo and some guy raises obv I push. Everyone folds to him and he says “I have to call”. I said “ya I know. I need to dubble”. He flips AK of course. Tina is there to see this and says “Oh no, your nemesis”. Everyone knows I hate AQ. But, then a crazy thing happens. Flop comes all rags, turn is a brick and a Q hits the river.

Tina gets all excited and I say to the other guy “that only happens online. Live poker is rigged too?” He took it pretty well. Now I have over 20k in chips but, that’s not shit with this structure.
One thing I forgot to mention is when we first sat down at the final table a few guys starting bringing up a chop. There were two guys with less than 3 bb’s left and I’m thinking, “are you guys nuts?” Anyway, I tell them we should wait a few more rounds to see what happens. But, inside I’m saying “fuck that we’re not chopping an $80 monkey shove tourney”. So, I fight it the whole way really.

I pick up QsJs and it’s folded to me in the CO+1. I shove and a shorty to my left shoves. He flips A-Q and I get ready to count chips but, a J hits the flop and he’s done.

Then several hands later, I’m in the BB and look down at QTo. Some people like to wait to look at their cards but, I don’t. I like to take a quick peek to know what I have while I consider what action I want to take as the hand develops. I’ve always done this. The table folds around to the SB who is one of the guys who wanted to do a 10 way chop (LO-FUGGIN-L). He says “oh I have to raise this” and states he’s all-in. I have him covered by about 15k. It appears like a standard ATC push and I call. He flips 4h-5h. He gave me the weirdest look. I’m pretty much calling any all-in in a Blind vs Blind battle with any two Broadway cards if I have you covered and I think you’re pushing ATC. He bricked everything but, I rivered a Q. gg well played.

Now I have the 2nd biggest stack at the table. We’re down to 7 players and I take another guy out who jams his puny little stack UTG into my BB. “If I call, it’s gonna be all over babeee”. Well, I didn’t say that but I do call with K-6o and he shows K-4sOOted. He hits the rail and we’re ITM. Another guy who was part of the let’s do a 10-way chop tag team brings up a chop again. I told him I’m not even gonna consider a chop until we get 3-handed and I’m pretty sure even then I won’t do it. He’s respects my decision and stops bringing it up for a while.

We get to 3-handed pretty quick which will happen with the blinds at 3000/6000 and no one with and M over 7 except me. I have approximately 70k in chips at this point with the next closest guy sitting at around 40k and the other player has maybe 6 BB’s.

Shorty brings up a chop for the umpteenth time. We both say no. Then this hand comes up. Shorty is in the BB and I raise it to 20k from the Button. SB folds and he agonizes for a while then folds showing Ad-4d. I show him the hammer. No joke. Tina was there to see it. He actually took it really well. The next time I get the button, I raise it 20k again. This time I have K-9o and the SB shoves. It’s like 28k more for me to call so I can’t really fold here but, I know I’m behind. I call hoping to get lucky and take this guy out. Cuz if I do this tournament is mine. He flips A-7o and an Ace immediately hits the flop. He dubbles thru and shortly after takes out the short stack.

We’re heads up but, I have less than 50k now. HU didn’t take long. I think about the 3rd-4th hand I decide to try and steal with Jd-9h. I raise it 20k and he just calls. Flop comes all rags with two diamonds. I jam all-in and he calls with Qd-8d. It was a huge flop for him. The board bricks and he takes down 1st.

I take home $484 for 2nd and he gets over $800 for 1st.

We head over to Mon Ami Gabi for dinner. If you’ve never eaten here, you should try to make an effort. I ordered Filet Mignon and Tina had Scallops. We sat out on the outside patio which has a direct view of the Bellagio fountains. My steak literally melted in my mouth. I gave Tina a bite and she said it was the best steak she’d ever tasted.

After dinner we stopped by the craps tables one last time. We both did ok after a few rolls and left the table +$50. There was one kid rolling and I got a bunch of chips laid on the field. As soon as I had every number covered, the dreaded 7 hit the felt. We cashed out and went to bed to rest up for our flight.

A big congratulations to Iggy and LJ for winning their seats in the big Main Event guarantees running this weekend. GL in the Main Event!

We later found out Nadia was the sneaky little schemer behind the champagne and strawberries. We luv ya Nadia, Muchas gracias!

Vegas Summer '08 Follies Day 2

After Tina got back from her massage at the spa here in Paris (another view from our room on the left), we showered up and ran out for lunch before heading to the Rio. One thing Tina made me promise her was we'd have sushi at some point during the trip. I used to really enjoy sushi but, kinda lost my taste for it. So, we haven't had it in quite a while. We settled on Ichiban in Bally's. But first we had to stop by the store where she purchased some hoochie shoes she insisted on having Friday night while we were at Venetian. Luckily the Paris shops had a sister store (Shooz). Friday night she was so happy after buying these, she ran over to my tournament table to show them off. Being the loving husband i am, i took one look at them after folding my rag hand and responded,

"heh"

I guess Tina was hoping for a different response as i could tell she was very excited about them. Here we are the very next day looking to return 'em. I guess they're difficult to get around in. Comfort always comes before looks in my book. obv

After getting dicked around at the store trying to exchange her hoochie shoes she ended up keeping them anyway. They were slightly worn and the snooty store staff would not give her a full credit. Tina couldn't find anything else she wanted and just decided to hang on to them.

We both agreed no more shopping after 3 wines and headed off to lunch.

Tina ordered their sushi combo special and i had the chicken teriyaki lunch combo. Ichiban is right next to the Bally's sports book. Def worth consideration if you happen to have the urge for sushi while sweating your bet at Ballys.

We got to Rio around 5pm and as soon as i get outta the cab, i see Justin Bonomo leaving the bldg. Probably just another casualty on the day at the hands of a megafish. The purpose of our visit was to say hi to a couple people and see how F-train was doing on day 2 of his RAZZ event.

Cruising up to media row we saw several well known pros as you'd expect. Cunningham was at the final table of the $2500 PLO event along with the Italian Pirate, Max Pescatori who went on to win another bracelet (his 2nd) and the $246k that goes along with it. AC finished 4th.

Pauly was not at his station on media row. Just as i was about to ask someone where he might be, we hear an authorative voice from behind "Sir, may i help you?"

It was Pauly, funny guy. We caught up for a bit and I asked him if he knew how F-train was doing in the RAZZ event. He said he was still in and and they were approaching the bubble. Pauly also said he scored some tix to see STP at The Palms Pearl Concert arena. STP is probably one of my favorite bands along with Linkin Park. I've seen Linkin Park live but, never STP. I bet it was one kick ass show.

Pauly introduced us to California Jen who i've exhanged emails with before and is the writer who will be covering Loretta8's '08 WSOP Main Event, winner of the 12k Full Tilt package via BBT3.

If you haven't heard already, GoldenHammer the winner of the 12k Package via the Bodonkey is going to take the money instead of playing the main event. Apparently, he just can't get away during that time. To say i'm a little disappointed about this is a huge understatement. PokerFool who won the other FTP 12k Package is taking a pass as well. So Lucko and Loretta are the only poker bloggers i'm aware of playing this year's WSOP Main Event. Unless, someone gets lucky in one of the big guarantees running this weekend on PokerStars and Full Tilt that is.

Jen and Tina chatted for quite some time while i was catching up with Pauly. Jen is a very nice lady and i'm glad we had the opportunity to meet her on this trip.

We headed over to the room where F-Train was battling for his bracelet and they were down to six tables with 5 tables getting paid. We didn't want to bother him while he was playing but, it looked like he was in a very bad seat with a big stack on his left. I won't spoil it for you but, I will say he finished in the money. Well done F-Train!

We went over to Caesars from there to see how everyone was doing in the noon $340 Megastack tournament. We got there around 5:30pm to find out only Astin and Weak_Player were still alive riding short stacks. I sat down at a cash table and quickly ran my stack up to over a $600 at a 1/2 table. I got most of it on one big hand where i flopped top 2p against an aggro-donk who had TPK-kicker and got it all in after he reraised my flop bet. I faded his 3 outs and scooped a very nice pot. Tina was at my side sweating the hand.

Weak_Player busted out of the MegaStack but Astin was still alive.

i then got caught up in a hand i should've never been in. i called a small pf raise from the button with 7sTs and flopped a straight/flush draw, hit my flush and lost a huge pot to a bigger flush. the way the hand played out on the flop, i thought the other player was protecting their hand against the flush draw but, in fact had TPTK with the nut flush draw. losing that pot got me back down to square one. i bled some chips off for a little while and we ended up leaving around midnight. i was down -$80 on the session. that one last cooler really fucked me. oh well.

Astin was still alive in the the megastack when we left. Hopefully, he broke thru to day 2.

we fly back tomorrow so, i've got one last day to try to make this trip a profitable one. i'm up like +$40 at this point.

Vegas Summer '08 Folies

Our flight to Vegas seemed like it took 15 min. Flying from OC to Las Vegas is a like a quick cab ride from MGM to the Rio. In fact, it may actually take as long on big weekends. Anyway, we got here fast.

We check in and ask for a room with a view of the strip. He responded quickly "There's a $70 surcharge for that". Since we hardly spend much time in the room anyway (and i'm a cheap ass..well mainly that's it really), i said nada. Then as he was checking us in he says "we have one on the 14th floor which is not that high up. i can give you that, no extra charge".

running good so far.

Our room has a sweet view of the pool area and, Bellagio (pic below). Tina luvs it.

We unpack and head over to Venetian with the Bodog swag. btw, i have a ton of it. If you see me here, please ask for a shirt for you, your wife and your 3 kids. if granny will sport Bodog, i'll hook her up too.

I texted cmitch to let him know we were heading over there and got a quick response he was already there.

"i'm already here. come by table 3 when you get here. "

pokah degens. where else would he be? :P

As soon as Tina and I walk into the poker room, we're run right into LJ, CK and Vinnay. Bayne walks up shortly after. We say our hellos and i can't get my name on the list for a $200 NL table fast enough. Cmitch stops by and decides to cash out his chips to shoot the shit for a while. LJ and Vinnay disappear to the Rio for the 2nd chance tourney ($340 buy-in i believe). CK tells me that a couple of megadonks are splashing around at a table with MiamiDon and Weak_player.

hmmmm...i was confused at first whether she really meant Don and Weak :D

The floorperson calls my name to sit down I and request a move to the Megadonk bloggah table when a seat comes up. i buy-in for $200 and look around the table. After i get my chips, i look across and see Sprstoner is sitting there in stealth mode ready to attack. But, he says he's only playing a few more hands and heading to Rio for the 2nd chance tourney too.

I get moved to the megadonk table with Don, Weak and CK. The table is comfortably loose. I pick up 7c8c in EP and just limp. 7 others decide to do the same. the flop comes J-T-2 rainbow and everyone checks it. a bee-yoo-tee-full 9 hits the turn. i bet $10 into a $14 pot and only CK calls. the river brings another 9 and she checks. i bet $20 and she check/raises to $60. it's a limped pot so she could have anything. i go ahead and pay her off with my ass-end of a straight and she shows 9-2sOOOted.

CK b-slaps me....nh gg me

so, i lose like $70 in that pot. i decide to start raising like $6-7 pf and take a few pots down post flop to get some chips back. then i pick up Ac7c and limp from EP. again a bunch of fish limp behind. flop comes A-J-x all diamonds and of course i have none. But, i bet out $10 to see if anyone else has and Ace or wants to chase. Two guys call including Astin. Instantly, i'm thinking he mighta flopped a flush. Cuz that's how good that kid runs as you all well know.

The turn brings another Ace and I decide to bet again. I push out $20, one guy folds and Astin calls. This is not looking good at all. I'm pretty much done with the hand already. The river brings a blank, no diamond and Astin immediately checks. I check and he shows K-4 no diamonds. K-high huh. I guess he thought i was just trying to steal it the whole way. Honestly, if he woulda made a big bet on the river i mighta folded.

So i stack some chips and a few hands later i pick up K-K in the BB. a bunch of fishees limp and i pop it to $20 which looks just like a squeeze. One of the biggest fishees at the table calls along with Weak and the flop comes Q-4-4. I make a pot sized bet of $60 and king fishee calls, Weak folds. The turn brings another Q which i really hate obv. I check and king fishee checks. The river brings a 4 so now we've got 2p on board. I decide to bet out $20 with the intention of folding to a reraise but, hoping to get value on my 3 pair :P king fishee calls and shows pocket 8s. i scoop a nice pot.

later i pick up TT on the button. it folds around to a player in the cutoff who's mega tight. he raises to $10 and i bump it to $25. he calls along with king fishee. flop comes J-high. they check to me and i bet $60. king fishee finally figures out how to muck and mega-tight man looks at me and saids, "i believe you". he shows AJ sOOted and folds.

It's about 8pm at this time and my tournament is ready to start. i rack my chips and finish the session (+300). i really hated leaving that table.

damn this is turning into a long fuggin post.

i sit down to my tournament and within a couple orbits i double up with Ac7c with the nut flush against a lower flush. i lose some chips on a check/raise bluff from the blinds and shortly after, someone taps on my shoulder ands says:

"How's it going bro?"

i turn around to look up and it's frigging EugeneToddBro. he totally caught me by surprise. i guess Tina ran into him during a tournament break. he was there playing the $2500 tournament. Tina told him i was a big fan and to stop by and say hi.

if you've never seen any of Eugene's VideoBlogcasts, you're missing out on some seriously hilariously shit. the one he did on June 10th is my fav. "fuck you poker gods!" it's gotta be one of the best rants ever. anyway, Tina snaps a pic of us and i told him i'd check on him in his tournament later.

I win a coin flip with a shorty TT vs AQ (my nemesis) on a sick board. flop comes, 6-7-8. turn 9. river Q. lucky me.

we break and Eugene's tourney is on break also. we talk a bit. i tell him his new G-rating on the last coupla Blogcasts are killing me. he says "i'm gonna have to take the show to Howard Stern babeee!"

anyway, as midnight rolls around we're down to 3 tables in my tournament. Unfortunately for Eugene, he ended up running AK into Aces. gg Gene. I get moved to a pretty active table and can't really get anything going. the pot is raised by the time it gets to me almost everytime. i finally pickup A-9o and it folds to me in CO+1, i raise it $2000 with the blinds at 300-600. some aggro monkey who's been stealing like mad shoves all-in. i insta-call, he shows As3s and I double thru. i get really nothing else i can do anything with.

This whole time i'm starving my ass off. Tina went over to Cafe Luxbox with the rest of the bloggah crew and were enjoying a late dinner. i haven't had anything since we had lunch at the airport before our flight which was like 12hrs prior. Tina finally comes by my table around 1am with some leftovers from her dinner. Tina always seems to be there when i need her most. I chow down her spicy chicken with rice and feel ready to continue the fight. Our table breaks and i get moved to the worst fuggin seat ever.

We're down to 2 tables with 9 spots paying and i'm nursing a short stack at this point. i have one of the chip leaders 2 seats to my left and a aggro euro donk on my right. I think i have about 5 bb's at this point looking to get all in at any decent opportunity. i finally pick up 5-5 in the SB and it folds to eurodonk on the button, he raises 4x and i jam. the BB who has less than me jams too. euro donk calls with ATo and the BB tables AQo. somehow i dodge all those overs and triple up. i couldn't believe it really. i thought i was done for sure.

i'm still not sitting on a lot of chips even after that. the blinds and antes go up shortly after to 2k/4k with 500 ante. we lose a couple more players and we hardly ever see a flop. most of the pots are taken down pf. sitting on about 10k after a couple of orbits, i pick up A-3 on the Button. it folds to Eurodonk who does his standard steal raising 4x. i jam, BB folds and he pretty much has to call. agonizing the call he shows J-7o. he spikes a J right on the flop and i'm out in 15th place. If i dubble there, i have a decent shot at the final table. there were a few guys on the other table who were also nursing short stacks along with me and one other fish at our table. It sux to lose to some garbage hand but, i'm happy with how i played and didn't make a single mistake. i made a couple of pretty big folds with AQ pf where i was behind which can be hard to do in a live tourney since you see so few playable hands. I played a little over 6hrs for no cash. That's always frustrating but, at least i was freerolling it after my cash game session. I still finished the night up $120. It's not much but, better than being down.

I kinda just wanted to blow off some steam after the tournament so, Tina and i rolled craps at Paris before we hit the bed and finished there down -$40. Today, we're planning to head over to Rio after Tina gets back from the spa and we have lunch.

The trip is going well so far. GL at the tables!

We fly out to Vegahs tomorrow afternoon

We’re both pretty excited about the trip. Looking over the tournament schedules, the Caesar’s noon $340 MegaStack NLHE on Saturday looks like the best option. The only problem I have with that tournament is it’s a 2-day event. Mondo went out 39th (582 players) last Saturday after 14hrs of play cashing $508 (nice job btw). 1st place paid $49k.

Can a $300 tournament be too deep?

I’m pretty sure I don’t wanna spend half my trip chained to a chair, if I’m lucky. That and I’d like to remain married. So, I think I’m gonna pass on it.

I was gonna try to satellite into Venetian’s $540 Deep Stack on Saturday but, it appears to be HORSE this weekend. So, that’s not happening. Binion’s is running a $250 NLHE tournament this Saturday but, it’s 6-max, which is definitely not my game.

I guess I’m gonna end up settling on one of Venetian’s nightly tournaments (8pm start time) and cash games this trip. I have a much better chance of coming home with the loot playing cash games anyway. According to Venetian’s tournament schedule, Friday’s 8pm tournament is a KO ($200 buy-in inc $10 KO).

Saturday’s itinerary is wide open. Tina will be at the spa so, that’ll be a good time for me to hit the cash tables. Sunday we’re gonna be at CK’s pool house for a BBQ (thanks for the invite CK!). Monday we fly back.

Bodog has shipped us a bunch of swag which should be waiting at our hotel when we check-in Friday. Please hit me up early if you’re out there so I don’t have to haul any of it back. I’m planning to bring whatever I have left to the BBQ.

GL at the tables.

Elephant in the room

Who would go to the effort to create an anonymous blog and screen name bashing poker bloggers, the tournament host and Bodog while benefiting from the added t$ every week? While at the same time trying to qualify and cash in some of the big prizes in our final tournament?

After backing himself into a corner, he finally “came out”.

Yesterday he put up a post claiming it was all a joke and “some people” got together to write a blog around his play. “These guys are mostly monkeys, as reflected in their posts” (his words).

Who are “these monkeys”. Are we really so naive to believe any of this? It’s a classic example of deferring blame.

He dragged several bloggers through the mud and swamp anonymously while at the same time “acting” as a legitimate friend of the poker blogger community.

I left this comment on his post Tuesday which he promptly deleted. I wonder how many other comments were deleted.

$mokkee has left a new comment on the post "MATH Recap, RIP Blogger Crusher, and WSOP Dreamz":

yo Mr. Teflon,

so you take zero responsiblity for what was posted on Blogger Crusher's blog? I'd luv to know who "those guys" were who were making "idiot" posts as you call them.

i think this is a bunch of BS. you bashed "Blowdog" as you called it on this blog while anonymously competing against everyone for the added prizes every week and a shot at the WSOP grand prize. i think it's sad that you would go to such lengths to hide behind ICB and Blogger Crusher's blog this whole time. the only reason you came out is because you were forced to.

this whole situation says alot about who you really are.

i sent you an email yesterday asking you to admit you were ICB and you never responded. probably cuz you were scrambling around trying to come up this bogus story and were just too embarrassed to man up.

your integrity ranks right up there with your friend donkette.

Post a comment.

While we’ve taken some jabs at each other over the years, I actually considered him a friend before this. My wife helped him decide on a gift to bring back to his better half during last summer’s WPBT gathering which he later said she loved.

Tina is not amused by any of this.

I realize “fighting” over the internets belongs in the Special Olympics but, was I expected to ignore it?

After he outted himself as ICrushBloggers, I spent most of the day (Tuesday) in discussions about whether he should be disqualified from the Bodog TOC for creating a bogus blog he “claims” he wasn’t even posting to (allegedly).

I expressed to leave him in. We agreed to let him play. He had no impact on the outcome anyway. Except gifting ScottyMac a bunch of chips like I did.

My finish in the Bodog TOC was a huge disappointment to me. Finding out one of your friends is a two-faced liar was disappointing as well.

GoldenHammer takes down the 12k WSOP Seat Package

Congrats to our kamikaze friend GoldenHammer for winning the Bodog TOC and a golden opportunity to play in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

The last five months have been an incredible ride in the Bodog Blogger Series. NewinNov pretty much owned it from the get go and never looked back. He final tabled the TOC but, wasn’t able to get it done.

vgg NewinNov in this series!

gg everyone who participated and especially, those who made it to the Bodog TOC.

Although it was a points race, it still wasn’t a cakewalk. Many players (including me) were sweating the final tournament before the TOC to find out who would have their shot at the greatest poker tournament in the world.

Unfortunately for me, things didn’t come together this week like they did last week. But, I’m ok with how I went out. I died on a sick cooler on the river.

That's what it takes to beat me kids.

Several months ago, I contacted a PokerWorks reporter who planned to be onsite covering the WSOP to find out if she would be interested in following the progress of our winner as well as BBT3 winners.

She agreed.

There are at least six (6) bloggahs who’ve won WSOP seats through the BBT3 and Bodog Blogger Series and will be followed on PokerWorks throughout their adventure if they decide to play and not pocket the $$$.

It should make for some good reading from the rail. Email me: smokkee@cox.net if you decide to play so I can forward her your contact information.

Here are your final payouts for the Bodog Blogger TOC:

GoldenHammer – Grand Prize $12k WSOP Package
ScottMc – t$540
EmptyMan – t$379
MiamiDon – t$270
Cbags – t$109

Congratulations to GoldenHammer for taking it down and BIG HUGE thanks to Bodog for supporting us and Nadia for putting this all together. I hope we can do it again next year.

Nadia is the shizzz.

Thanks to LivePokerRadio for covering the Bodonkey thru this series.

I really enjoy hearing how players turned their Bodog t$ into cheddah. BuddyDank won the Bodog $5k Guaranteed for $1500 while warming up for the TOC, getting A-A twenty times and sucking on his box-o-wine. Well done Buddy!

Good luck to everyone playing in this year’s WSOP.

"I wanna be a Tran!"

that's Tran as in Kenny Tran, JC Tran, Theo Tran, etc

Not sure how many are watching PokerRoad's Blogfessionals but, Eugene Todd who's one of the funniest mofos in the poker world has signed up to do a daily video post during the WSOP.

he goes into a rant half-way thru todays post about wanting to be a Tran. very good stuff. look at some of his previous video blog posts for more hilarity.

Life of Ivey is also some seriously good shit. Today he gamboooled 1m in craps. Find it all on PokerRoad.

Strike two!

Bang head here. --->

I bounced out of Bodog's 5-seat guarantee in 65th (235 runners) with AKo all-in pf.
Sitting on less than 6k in chips, a shorty monkey pooshes in EP for about 2k and a big stack cold calls. I jam all-in with my AK and big stack snap calls another 4k with 7-7. It's not a terrible call but, 7-7 in a 3-way all-in? Shorty shows K-To. Anyway, i whiff the flop but, there are 2 clubs i have Kc. The turn brings another club giving me a bunch more outs. I brick the river but the shorty with K-T more than triples up with a runner straight on the rvr. He went on to win his seat.

About ten minutes later i pick up AKo in Bodog's 100k. i have approx 3500 chips with blinds at 150/300. Some guy makes a standard 3x raise to 900 from EP and i jam all-in over the top. At least this guy thought for more than 2 nanosecs before calling off another 2600 chips. He flips 9-9 and I brick the board again.

Donked around in the Full Tilt 2k bloggah freeroll. It's a winner take all so I went in looking to gamble. Worked my stack up to over 4k. Got coolered with a broadway straight vs flush on the river. then I pick up QQ, raise and call a jam. he has QQ and we chop. after that i raise it up with AJo and a shorty jams, i think about folding but decide to call hoping for another flip (cuz i'm awesome at coin flips right?). She flips J-J. An Ace hits the flop but it's all diamonds. of course i have none. Obv a diamond hits the turn and i donate. I finally jam the rest of my chips from the BB into an EP raiser with Jc-7c. He calls with A-Ko and nails it right on the flop.

the irony

i'm done with tournaments for the rest of the night. gonna watch the Lakers even the series (Edit: gift Boston 2 games) and grind cash tables later.

Steee-rike One !

I ended up donking out 31st (of 46) in the Full Tilt TOC this afternoon with AJo vs 55 on a 49949 board. The way the hand played out after the flop, i read his river bet as a steal attempt.

Oh well.

I'm still registered for Bodog's 5-seat guarantee tomorrow (Sunday) @ 3:15pm ET and I'm also registered to play Bodog's 100k Guaranteed at 4pm ET.

Congrats to PokerFool and Loretta for taking down the two 12k WSOP Main Event Packages as well as KatieMother and OSU754 for snapping up the 2k seats.

Well done all!

Honorable mention has to go to Cmitch who came into the Final Table with the chip lead and got donkeypunched a few times. Some terrible luck did him in.

Overdonks at Donkdog

I'm playing the DS 4k guaranteed on Bodog right now and some guy just overcalled a shove with A8o from the BB on a 8-T-2 flop cracking this other guy's A-A when another 8 hit the river.

hilarious chat ensues:

CINBAD3: lolololololol
CINBAD3: sick
[KYDERBYFAN1]: that is so sick
[KYDERBYFAN1]: derk you have donked all game
smokkee: standard ass raping
[KYDERBYFAN1]: i am sure you will donk to first
[KYDERBYFAN1]: change this to
[KYDERBYFAN1]: donkdog
[KYDERBYFAN1]: donkaments
[KYDERBYFAN1]: at donkdog
[KYDERBYFAN1]: instead of overlays it is overdonks
[KYDERBYFAN1]: at donkdog

i couldn't stop laughing at this guy going on and on after getting hosed.

Bodog / Full Tilt TOC strategy

Apparently, some people think I have no shot at winning one of the 12k WSOP Main Event packages. They believe I have no NLHE MTT skills and that's fine. It doesn't really bother me. I consider myself more of a cash game player these days anyway.

Negativity and doubters just fuel my desire to win. I feel like I still have alot to prove. But what and to who? I don't know. I think it's mostly just to myself. It's human nature. No matter what you've done or achieved, you strive for more.

All I do every day is try to make good decisions at the table. I try to get my money in ahead and most of the time I do. Sometimes I get distracted, make misreads or emotions will affect my play. But, I try to minimize that. It's a constant challenge.

I've had my share of negativity and doubt to overcome, some of it my own. So much of your poker success can be attributed to your state of mind and how you deal with losses.

My strategy for both TOC's is to play my "A" game. Don't let emotions or people get in my way and try to overcome any adversity I encounter along the way.

I'm in it to win it. I didn't bust my ass over four months for this opportunity to pass me by.

I'm going down swinging and if the cards don't fall in my favor so be it. At least I know in my heart I gave it everything I could.

Either way, i'll be in Vegas next weekend with my beautiful wife celebrating the win and registering for the WSOP Main Event or toasting whoever came out on top, cheering them from the rail and return to my everyday grinding.

I really have nothing to lose and that's my attitude going in.

It's a freeroll.

The Bodog TOC is setup in the tournament lobby. If you’re one of the players listed above, you can register now. Congratulations to everyone who made it and thanks to all who participated.

Huge thanks goes out to Bodog and our friend Nadia for putting all this together.

I used the t$270 won from last night’s unclaimed bounty to register for Bodog’s 5-Seat WSOP Guarantee scheduled for this Sunday, June 8th at 3:15pm ET.

Big thanks to all the donks who gifted their chips to me in last night’s tournament. I couldn’t have done it without you!

Lastly, 45 Full Tilt Tournament of Champions Seat winners (and Hoy) compete Saturday, June 7th at 5pm ET for two 12k WSOP Main Event Seats and two 2k Packages.

Thanks to Al and the fellas for getting those prizes together. Regardless of who wins, it’s been a huge year for poker bloggahs. When I started this blog over three years ago, I never dreamed we’d have the strength in numbers to pull something like this off. Great job people!

I hope whoever wins their way into the WSOP, follows their dream to compete in the greatest poker tournament on the planet.

If I’m fortunate enough, I know I will.

Apparently, none of you fonkey chip slingin’, monkey pushing, shove happy,sOOted calling stations had it in you. You tried and failed. Go back to pushing your pencils, lying to the jury and running Windows update on your servers.

You never really had a chance.

(end Hoy ego rant)

A couple of you tried to out draw ol’ $mokkee but, it just wasn’t meant to be. Here’s one gem where we’re 3-handed at the final table and Don decides K9sOOted is good enough to call off all his chips with a shorty (wonka) just about ready to blind out.

Would luv to hear comments on his call:

smokkee: wins main pot(113,048.00)
with a Straight, Ace high

that hand pretty much locked up 1st for me. I shoved almost every hand after into Wonka and he finally called with KJo vs my Q5o on the last hand. He flopped a J and I rivered a Q. pretty standard play against a micro-shorty sitting on a MEGA stack.

this was another valiant effort to bust me by our friend Bayne.

Big Lick no good. thanks for your donation to my chip stack Bayne. That hand put me in a position to finish at least in the top 3 barring some sick cooler or bad beat.

the Bodog TOC is set. it's on next Tuesday, June 10th kids. GL everyone!

scoop an ez T$270 in Tuesday night's Bodonkey

All you have to do is pry it from the cold dead fingers of this guy.

<----------------- Due to some big poker donkathon going on in Vegas, none of Bodog's pros are available for our last tournament in the Bodog Blogger Tournament series.

Since i'm sitting in 11th trying to hang on for a seat into Bodog's TOC, it only makes perfect sense to put a T$270 bounty on my head right?

All you have to do is find a way to suckout against my AA/KK Tuesday night @ 9:05pm ET and it's all yours.
