biggest bodonkey comeback evah

Peaker limped into the final table, blinded down to 65 chips and went on an incredible tear to take the chip lead HU against Lightning36 who already had three (3) Bodonkey titles under his belt.

there was talk of a chop. but they chose to slug it out for the 1st place finish and all the Bodonkery glory. the HU match went for quite some time until Lightning finally took it down for his 4th Bodonkey title.

Poker Road Radio

i don't know if many of you have been tuning into Poker Road Radio. the show is hosted and co-hosted by several well known pros including Joe Sebok, Gavin Smith and many others. this week's guest is Mike Matusow. about 15 minutes into this week's show, they discuss the difference in the quality of players on the East Coast vs. West Coast.

i'm not about to get into a flame war over this but, the general consensus in the studio was that East Coast players were bad compared to West Coast. they even went on to say players in Tunica were even worse.

I've never played on the East Coast and was curious to hear other objective opinions on this topic. I've played at several L.A and S.D. casinos and found the play to be generally much better than what you run across on the Vegas strip (obv).

cash games rool and a blonkey finally sees the light

a little over a week ago i made a withdrawal from Bodog and expected the RNG to make me pay dearly for it. i received my check in 4 days via Fedex (at no extra cost) and somehow rolled along + 18 buy-ins since.

there are maybe less than 10 regular cash game players who's play i respect. the majority of the field is either soft or can't fold. once you recognize who's who, it's a reasonably ez game. you will take some bad beats and coolers along the way. but, that's expected.

the best thing about cash games, is you don't have to make a commitment to play 4-5 hrs like most tournaments (if you're lucky). i usually play brief 1-2hr sessions so, i don't get burned out or bored.

cash games are goot!

someone has finally come around and given in to the temptation which is the weekly Bodonkey. he's already registered to donk around with us tomorrow night. GL at the tables!

How to turn T$48 into $240 cash money

Win almost every race.

Bodog's 20k Guarantee had a $2700 overlay last night so i decided to sit down ( $44+4 / 3000 chips / 8:30pm ET start time). This has become one of my favorite nightly tournaments. Good starting time and there's always an overlay.

I doubled before the 1st break with 56s against pockets TT's. Flopped an inside str/flush draw and got it all in. My flush hit the river. After the break, i picked up peaker's fav hand QQ and raise it 3.5x pf. Some shorty pushes with 88 and i fade his 2 outs. I win another race with my nemesis AQ vs. AJ and go to the 2nd break with almost 10k in chips. Better than avg.

After the 2nd break, i don't get much to work with. called a few raises with suited connectors and miss some draws, bled down to about 6k in chips near the bubble before the 3rd break. but, Bodog's RNG saves me. i push from the BB with 66 into a pf raiser and one caller. some guy smooth called pf with AA and i river a 6 to dubble thru. lucky me!

We finally get through the bubble (36 spots paid/ 392 players). I keep picking up Ace-little and force myself not to play it. i finally give in to temptation cuz the blinds/antes are killing me. i push with Ad-8s from LP on a steal attempt and some clown wakes up with AhKh in the BB. flop comes all diamonds and I 4-flush him on the river. Bodog's RNG saved me again. he was mighty pissed.

that got me up to over 30k in chips with 15 players left. but, the avg stack was well over 50k. with the blinds at 3000/6000 and someone all-in almost every hand, there's really no way i'm gonna be able to make it to the final table without at least one more double-up.

i finally choose my fate. i pick up A9o UTG and jam 7-handed. guy behind me immediately calls and another guy pushes over the top with 70k. smooth caller behind me insta-calls with AA. other guy shows AsKs. good timing me.

i finish 15th and pick up $240 for my efforts. i was a bit disappointed not to final table this. but, was very lucky a couple of times to get as far as i did. scientific proof i'm luckier at Bodog.

GL at the tables this weekend!

Get your Full Tilt bloggament dead money donations here!

I decided to try my luck in the mOOk and a $14 Full Tilt Token Frenzy after dropping a buy-in at the Bodog cash tables early last night. I scored a $75 token in the frenzy but, my inability to get deep in a FTP blogger tournament continued.

I ran my stack up as high as T$5300 but, really needed to double near the end of the 2nd hour to even have a shot at the final table. I had a total of three (3) all-in races during the mOOk. All of which came between the 1st and 2nd break. Each time, I was at least a slight favorite holding a pocket pair.

Here were my results of those races:
99 vs. AKo (win)
55 vs. A5s (chop)
88 vs. AKs and 56s (lost)

I flopped a five in the 55 vs. A5s race on a J-5-X flop giving me a set. but, runner Jacks gave us a chop. good times. The end result of those 3 races pretty much sums up the kind of tournament experience i've come to expect at FTP.

If you were listening in on BuddyDank radio during the mOOk, you heard a new feature this week called "Lucky" or "Unlucky" where each of the hosts gave their own opinion on different bloggers luck factor.

My name came up during the broadcast and all four hosts said i was either "Unlucky" or had below average luck. I tend to agree with their opinions, at least when i play on Full Tilt. This will sound stoopid to many of you but, I seem to experience at least average luck on Bodog but, below average luck on Full Tilt.

This perception causes me to avoid races on FTP when i'm up against a player who has me covered. I don't mind racing with a shorty but, i choose not to gamble against bigger stacks. In my last race 88 vs 56s vs AKs, a shorty pushed UTG. His push screamed weakness to me since the blinds were getting ready to hit him. So, i jammed from MP with my 88. But, another player who had me covered in LP also called. If i knew he was gonna call two all-ins, i would've def folded. i don't want to be in a 3-way race situation with 88. esp, on Full Tilt.

anyway, now I have a $75 token to donk off at my favorite site to avoid race situations.

Record turnout in this week's Bodog Blogger Tournament

Thirty-Seven (37) players fired up their shiny new Bodog Poker client, ponied up $10+1 and went toe-to-toe for this week's $970 prize pool ($370 cash + T$600 courtesy of Bodog), surpassing Bodonkey's previous record of (34) players.

Before i get into announcing the top money finishers and this week's King of Bodonkery, i must say i'm extremely pleased with how this weekly bloggament field continues to grow. Bodog sweetens the prize pool for us every week. I understand the "official announcement" from Bodog's marketing rep making this year's Bodog Blogger Tournament series even sweeter, will hit the blogganet next week.

I've known about the forthcoming announcement of this year's added prizes for weeks and being unable to share the news has been killing me.

When i first made the switch to Bodog as my new home for poker anguish in August '07, i gave up the blogger comraderie, donkeypunching, drunken railchat and body slamming in most other weekly bloggaments hosted at Full Tilt. I never really imagined I'd be able to beg, coerce, bribe and pistol whip enough of the blogger faithful to make the Bodog Blogger tournament a regular weekly stop in LOL-bloggaments.

A HUGE thanks to all who've given the Bodog experience (i.e. stacking sports book/casino donkeys) a try.

On to this week's winners:

NumbBono, PokahDave, On_THG, Bdidde and PokerPeaker finished 6-10th respectively for T$11
Yestbay took 5th for $29 cash+T$109
the worst poker player wiggled his way into 4th for $44 cash+T$109
InstantTragedy slugged his way to 3rd for $59 cash+T$109
"ICrushBloggers" took over a 4-1 chip lead HU against Drizz for this week's Bodonkey title

Drizz bloggacrushered "IhaveaCrushonBloggers", overcoming a huge chip deficit for 1st place and $148 cash+T$109

"IwasCrusheredbyaBlogger" won $88 cash+T$109 for his 2nd place effort.

Watch out for next week's big announcement!

Final thoughts on AFC Championship and Chargers season / Bodonkey @ 9:05pm ET tonight

First off, congrats to the Patriots and their fans for a historical run this year. The Pats made some key personnel acquisitions last year giving them almost an unfair advantage over the rest of the league.

I’m extremely proud of how the Bolts overcame so much to make 2007 a year we will remember. But, obviously Sunday’s game was a HUGE disappointment. You can’t expect to win going into the red zone over and over coming away with field goals instead of TD’s. Our defense was able to force Brady to have one of his worst outings of the year and effectively shutdown Randy Moss. But, we weren’t able to capitalize.

Charger injuries were a big factor Sunday. Our top 3 offensive weapons were either unable to finish the game or just weren’t as effective as they could’ve been.

For all the Philip Rivers haters out there, his performance in the AFC Championship was as gutsy as they come. When I see comments to the effect “you would of had a better chance with Brees”, I say hell, we would of a had a better shot with Dan Fouts too! Philip Rivers is our starting QB and that’s not going to change anytime soon. After seeing River’s in the playoffs, I’m glad he’ll be back there taking snaps for us next season.

The Bolts accomplishments this year will pay off. Our young team demonstrated success, heart and character this post-season. We didn’t quit after getting off to a 1-3 start. We knocked out last year’s defending SuperBowl champion in their own backyard and played a tough fought battle on the road in the AFC Championship with arguably the best team in the history of the NFL. The Chargers have high expectations and will be even hungrier next year after their success this season.

Register for the Bodonkey tonight @ 9:05pm ET with T$600 added

Can the Chargers do it again?

"It's so rare to see a team come together right before your eyes. Usually, those moments are behind closed doors, reserved for insiders only.

But with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter Sunday at the RCA Dome, with the San Diego Chargers trailing the Indianapolis Colts 24-21, with LaDainian Tomlinson and Philip Rivers sidelined, with Antonio Gates running on one foot, with the defending Super Bowl champs thinking they finally had put the pesky Chargers to rest, it happened.

San Diego's eight-play, 78-yard, Billy Volek-led touchdown drive was one of the gutsiest, coolest, most inspiring football moments of the season. And one of the reasons it resonated was that, in a year in which coach Norv Turner has been rightly questioned about his ability to lead the Chargers, he came through in San Diego's seminal moment. "
- Seth Wickersham / ESPN.com

The Bolts took on a new coaching staff, overcame a 1-4 start, won the AFC West, beat the defending champion Indianapolis Colts on the road and are one game away from the SuperBowl. No one, except the Charger faithful thought they could get this far.

No matter what happens on Sunday, this team has overachieved this season. They have a shot at taking out possibly the best team ever. That alone is more than enough motivation. Look at how close the Ravens and Giants were to beating the Pats. IMO all the pressure is on the Pats. Everyone expects them to win the AFC and go on to win the SuperBowl. With each win, the pressure continues to mount.

Everyone expects the Chargers to lose this Sunday and if they do, people will just say "hey they just happened to run into the best team in NFL history". The Patriots pounced SD in week 2. I think this also favors the Bolts. The team was still getting acclimated to Norv and his coaching staff and Antonio Cromartie didn't even play that game.

The Pats came into our house last year, ruined our season and spit in our face. Tina and I were at that game and I don't think I've ever felt more dissappointed at the outcome of a football game.

The Chargers couldn't have asked for a better scenario. Go into Foxboro and defeat the 17-0 team in their own backyard on the way to the SuperBowl.

Bodog, Bodog, Bodog....

You guys tired of hearing that? Apparently, some of you are and I can’t really blame you.

I can blog about how I won an 18k Aussie Millions package. But, I didn’t.
I could blog about how I beat heroin. But, I’ve never done heroin.
I could blog about how I was gonna setup some slick DB with all the bloggers tourney stats in it which got put on the backburner ‘cuz the developer is on RAZZ.
I could blog about how I’m gonna win a seat into some of the FTOPS events. But, I can’t spend my time/$$$ playing satellites. So, I can’t really blog about chasing the next big score.
I might blog about how I won a blogger tournament. But, I can’t seem to do that either. Over the past several months of bloggaments, I’m just dead money and I accept that. So, don't play that many.

What’s left?

Originally, I put up this blog to track my poker successes and failures. I’ve been doing that over the past couple of years. Recently, I’ve focused all my efforts on my cash game. I play full ring 9-handed cash games instead of 6-max because the swings are much easier to deal with. I’ve always been more comfortable at full ring games and believed this is where I should focus my attention. When’s the last time you walked into a "live" poker room and saw a bunch of 6-max tables? Most tournaments are 9-handed as well. It’s a big adjustment.

It took me several months of trial and error but, I discovered (the hard way) tournaments are not the ideal way for your average player to profit. Big tournament scores are just too few and far between. In fact, I almost hate playing tournaments anymore. I played Bodog’s 30k guarantee Tuesday night during this week’s Bodonkey and was the chip leader with over 10K (3000 starting chips) after the 1st break. After 3.5hrs of play I got into a HU battle with KQ vs. AQ (my nemesis) got knocked out and cashed $150 finishing 28th out of 468 players. The hourly rate in tournaments is a joke. Yes, you might score that big cash one day. In the meantime, you’re banging your head against the wall.

I used to hear that all the time from cash game players. But, I had several nice tournament cashes in ’06 and the rush of being at a final table with several thousand at stake is probably one of the best adrenaline rushes you can ever have. I sincerely miss it.

For the time being, you’re gonna be stuck with me, my cash games and Bodog. Which, isn’t the worst thing ever. A big announcement about added prizes to the top finishers overall in the '08 Bodonkey is forthcoming.

I’ve done my best to give back to the blogger community via the Bodonkey tournaments and Bodog advertising referrals. You guys are what keep this blog going. I could easily just decide to delete my blog (it's like 4-clicks) and go about my business. But, I’ve made several friends here and think I’m adding some value through my experiences. At least I hope I am.

Maybe I’ll have one of those nights where I win a few critical races and hammer my way short-handed into a nice score with my Bodog T$. Then, I can post all the crazy shit that happened along the way.

Bodog Cash Payouts are fast

During the Bodonkey last night, some of you were inquiring about how fast cash payouts are on Bodog. Tina made a cashout two weeks ago. It took 4 days to arrive on our doorstep. My last few payouts have taken an average of 4 days to receive.

But, don't take our word for it. Here's a recent post from another blogger who recently made a Bodog withdrawal.

EDIT (10-30-08): In August '08 Bodog estimated their check requests to take 40 business days to arrive(almost two months). I requested a payout in August and it actually took 36 business days. They're having difficulty finding payment processors but, in October '08 I was told by Bodog Support a check request would take 30 business days to process. So things are improving. Be patient.

30 Bodonkey players slug it out for $900

The Bodonkey continues to gain momentum with new players suiting up every week. This week, 1/3rd of the field got paid.

Is there another MTT on the planet with that kind of payout structure?

WWonka (fan of the evil empire) took 1st for $120cash+T$109
Blinders finished 2nd for $72cash+T$109
PokerPeaker battled his way to 3rd for $48cash+T$109
HighOnPoker slugged his way to 4th for $36cash+T$109
ChayseTilton finessed her way to 5th for $24cash+T$109

Redkoi, Yestbay, MondoGarage, PokahDave and Bdidde finished 6-10 for T$11

there were only three (3) players knocked out after the 1st break. unheard of in a bloggament. this structure is built for the patient and disciplined.

in two short weeks, a HUUUGE announcement will be made about the 2008 Bodonkey. a tournament leaderboard will be hosted on Bodog. the top 18 finishers will play in a tournament of champions. the top five (5) finishers in the TOC will get paid.

what will they get paid?

i cannot disclose now (and it's freakin' killing me). but i will say, this will put Bodog on the blogger map. Bloggers will be trippin' over each other trying to figure out how to open an account and get money on Bodog.

do it now!

Freeroll MTT's on Bodog

Most of Bodog's tournaments with guaranteed payouts have overlays and excellent structures. Last night's 20k guarantee ($44+4 buy-in 8:30ET) had a $3000 overlay. they were short approximately seventy (70) players.

Invest $10+1 in the Bodonkey and finish in the top five (5) for T$109+cash. Then, take some shots at a big score without putting a dent in your BR.

it's a no brainer:

Bring the hate

Philip Rivers will have the game of his life or at least not throw more than one INT. The Bolts defensive line will create enough havoc for Peyton Manning to get sacked several times or make hurried throws. Cromartie will run back at least one INT for a touchdown.

LT may not rush for 100 yds but, he'll have at least one TD. The Colt's defense will be spent most of the day focused on stopping the league's leading rusher, allowing Rivers to do what he must do to win on Sunday.

Chargers 24 - Colts 17

The Bodonkey is gonna be bigger and better in '08

Bodog is going to put up a tournament leader board on their site for the Bodonkey after the Superbowl next month. the Bodonkey leaderboard will look similar to this.

Bodog's Fight Challenge tournament series awards points to the top 30% of each tournament's field and additional prizes are awarded to the top finishers.

is this something to get excited about? "uh not really smoke"

well when we kick it off next month we'll make an announcement of some added "incentives". i can't get into specifics now. but, i will say that you should create a Bodog account soon and get some money deposited so, you're not scrambling around before the series starts.

Play Online Poker
...or you can wait 'til after the announcement is made and complain about how you can't figure out how to get money into Bodog, can't get acclimated to the software, etc etc

i'll actually enjoy all the bitching and moaning. 'cause if you have to work that much harder to get in, that means you might not. which means i have a better shot at the added "incentives".

:D

25 players suited up to slug it out for this week's Bodonkey title. every week, i notice new players in the Bodonkey. but, the field has dropped from our record turnout a few weeks ago and i can't help but, sit here and scratch my head wondering why players would pass on such a kick ass deal. this week the added T$600 was more than double the entire cash prize pool of $250. if you can find a tournament where the overlay more than doubles the cash entries, please let me know so i can play it religiously.

J_Mathewson III took down 1st this week for $125 cash +T$109
InstantTragedy finished 2nd for $75+T$109
NumbBono took 3rd for $50+T$109
Lightning36 and I took 4-5th respectively for T$109
BuddyDank, Catalinfr and ChayseTilton finished 6-8th for T$11

Congrats to JM III on his 1st Bodonkey title and thanks to all who registered for the best tournament value on the interweb.

the 800lb gorilla is finally off our ass

the Bolts got past the 1st round of the playoffs and head to Indy to take on Peyton Manning and the defending SuperBowl champs.

the 1st half of Sunday's game was extremely frustrating. the Titans shut down our running game and Rivers threw an INT. but, we were down less than a TD. it was almost a carbon copy of our last game against the Titans. we needed Philip to come though in the clutch and he did. Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers averaged over 20yds a catch. once we got our passing game going, LT was able to gain some yardage on the ground and made a goal line dive on 4th down for a TD to put the game away.

the last two games against Tenn were slugfests. but, SD still found a way to cover the 10pt spread this week. which, i'm sure made sports books a ton of $$$. not even John Q. Public was ready to lay that many pts in this game.

there were a lot of doubters after what happened last season and during the off-season. the bolts got through a difficult transition, won their division for the 3rd time in four years and finally won a playoff game. this win will give them a lot of confidence going into Indy. they've beaten Indy the last two times they've met during the regular season. i really think they've got a shot at getting to the AFC Championship.

if the Jags can find a way to beat NE, it might even be in San Diego.

2008 goals..

i had so many poker dreams for '07. it all came to a crashing halt after losing my job last January. i had to try and find my niche in the game. this meant giving up a 2008 WSOP Main Event chase and all other poker goals. i came within one player of making it to the last two WSOP main events in '05 and '06. So, that was a real sacrifice for me.

i tried making it in tournament play. but, was unsuccessful. i had some decent cashes this year. but, not enough to carry my weight. i tried making it in sng's and had some success. but, not enough to pay the bills. i dabbled in cash games in the past. but, never really considered it a strength. it was mostly recreational in between MTT's and donkin' around with bloggers.

i spent the majority of my time the past few months just focusing primarily on my cash game. it's a daily grind and i've found you really need to have the right mindset to profit. the swings can be stressful. in a tournament, you make a bad play and you lose your buy-in. no big deal. in a cash game, it's real $$$ and much more painful.

my goals in '08 are:

  • maintain profitablity and move up to higher levels (400/600max)
  • try to satellite into a WSOP event
  • play more tournaments
  • build a BR on Full Tilt
  • write more
  • lose some weight
  • ..and most importantly, keep my new bride happy. support her every way i can.

if i can throw in a nice MTT cash in there, that would be tremendous. but, i've decided not to direct too much focus in that area of my game. i never thought i'd call myself a cash game player. but, that seems to be where i profit consistently.

"To be a successful gambler, you have to have a complete disregard for money": Doyle Brunson

Tina finished 2nd in only her second stop at the weekly Bodonkey tournament on Bodog. I didn't coach her on any of her plays because i learned long ago when she 1st got started that she didn't like it much :)

She was betting with air when sensing weakness and reraised with strong hands, something she didn't used to do and it drove me nuts. I told her she was playing extremely well tonight and had a good chance of taking it down.

when i asked her what got into her, she said " i just played like i didn't care." it showed and she played better than ever. She was the chip leader at the final table.

Blinders even made a comment "Elf is running a clinic!"

this was just before Blinders pushed A6o into her after a reraise pf against AQ. he got lucky that time, flopping a 6. but, donated it all to her later when she just smooth called his button raise HU with QQ in the BB, and flopped a set. he reraised her check/raise on an Ace high flop with A6o again and she stacked him.

A6o is not the nutz son. put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Goat Rodeo finished 1st for $120 cash + T$109
Tina wound up finishing 2nd and took down $72 cash (poetic aint it?!?) and T$109
PokahDave took 3rd for $48+T$109
Blinders and NewinNov finished 4th-5th for T$109
Bayne, Wawfuls and Lucypher finished 6-8th for T$11 respectively

War_Crimes also played the Bodonkey tonight and has won it once before. He's a high-stakes cash game player on Bodog and is running a challenge to turn 40k into 300k in 18 months. stop by his blog and wish him luck.

Tina's in...

how 'bout the rest of you.
