After Tina got back from her massage at the spa here in Paris (another view from our room on the left), we showered up and ran out for lunch before heading to the Rio. One thing Tina made me promise her was we'd have sushi at some point during the trip. I used to really enjoy sushi but, kinda lost my taste for it. So, we haven't had it in quite a while. We settled on Ichiban in Bally's. But first we had to stop by the store where she purchased some hoochie shoes she insisted on having Friday night while we were at Venetian. Luckily the Paris shops had a sister store (Shooz). Friday night she was so happy after buying these, she ran over to my tournament table to show them off. Being the loving husband i am, i took one look at them after folding my rag hand and responded,
"heh"
I guess Tina was hoping for a different response as i could tell she was very excited about them. Here we are the very next day looking to return 'em. I guess they're difficult to get around in. Comfort always comes before looks in my book. obv
After getting dicked around at the store trying to exchange her hoochie shoes she ended up keeping them anyway. They were slightly worn and the snooty store staff would not give her a full credit. Tina couldn't find anything else she wanted and just decided to hang on to them.
We both agreed no more shopping after 3 wines and headed off to lunch.
Tina ordered their sushi combo special and i had the chicken teriyaki lunch combo. Ichiban is right next to the Bally's sports book. Def worth consideration if you happen to have the urge for sushi while sweating your bet at Ballys.
We got to Rio around 5pm and as soon as i get outta the cab, i see Justin Bonomo leaving the bldg. Probably just another casualty on the day at the hands of a megafish. The purpose of our visit was to say hi to a couple people and see how F-train was doing on day 2 of his RAZZ event.
Cruising up to media row we saw several well known pros as you'd expect. Cunningham was at the final table of the $2500 PLO event along with the Italian Pirate, Max Pescatori who went on to win another bracelet (his 2nd) and the $246k that goes along with it. AC finished 4th.
Pauly was not at his station on media row. Just as i was about to ask someone where he might be, we hear an authorative voice from behind "Sir, may i help you?"
It was Pauly, funny guy. We caught up for a bit and I asked him if he knew how F-train was doing in the RAZZ event. He said he was still in and and they were approaching the bubble. Pauly also said he scored some tix to see STP at The Palms Pearl Concert arena. STP is probably one of my favorite bands along with Linkin Park. I've seen Linkin Park live but, never STP. I bet it was one kick ass show.
Pauly introduced us to California Jen who i've exhanged emails with before and is the writer who will be covering Loretta8's '08 WSOP Main Event, winner of the 12k Full Tilt package via BBT3.
If you haven't heard already, GoldenHammer the winner of the 12k Package via the Bodonkey is going to take the money instead of playing the main event. Apparently, he just can't get away during that time. To say i'm a little disappointed about this is a huge understatement. PokerFool who won the other FTP 12k Package is taking a pass as well. So Lucko and Loretta are the only poker bloggers i'm aware of playing this year's WSOP Main Event. Unless, someone gets lucky in one of the big guarantees running this weekend on PokerStars and Full Tilt that is.
Jen and Tina chatted for quite some time while i was catching up with Pauly. Jen is a very nice lady and i'm glad we had the opportunity to meet her on this trip.
We headed over to the room where F-Train was battling for his bracelet and they were down to six tables with 5 tables getting paid. We didn't want to bother him while he was playing but, it looked like he was in a very bad seat with a big stack on his left. I won't spoil it for you but, I will say he finished in the money. Well done F-Train!
We went over to Caesars from there to see how everyone was doing in the noon $340 Megastack tournament. We got there around 5:30pm to find out only Astin and Weak_Player were still alive riding short stacks. I sat down at a cash table and quickly ran my stack up to over a $600 at a 1/2 table. I got most of it on one big hand where i flopped top 2p against an aggro-donk who had TPK-kicker and got it all in after he reraised my flop bet. I faded his 3 outs and scooped a very nice pot. Tina was at my side sweating the hand.
Weak_Player busted out of the MegaStack but Astin was still alive.
i then got caught up in a hand i should've never been in. i called a small pf raise from the button with 7sTs and flopped a straight/flush draw, hit my flush and lost a huge pot to a bigger flush. the way the hand played out on the flop, i thought the other player was protecting their hand against the flush draw but, in fact had TPTK with the nut flush draw. losing that pot got me back down to square one. i bled some chips off for a little while and we ended up leaving around midnight. i was down -$80 on the session. that one last cooler really fucked me. oh well.
Astin was still alive in the the megastack when we left. Hopefully, he broke thru to day 2.
we fly back tomorrow so, i've got one last day to try to make this trip a profitable one. i'm up like +$40 at this point.

Hmmm...am I mistaken or is the "take the money deal" of the bodonkey ToC only the spending money (2.5k instead of the whole 12.5k)? That really sucks..while it's a nice payday for the goldenhammer it really takes away from the broggers as a community...like "one life long dream" or 10k whatever you cherish more...pretty sick IMHO...oh well...what can you do :-/
I prefer Ballys poker room. Usually easy pickings there. I only stayed at Paris once but really liked it.
Hope you score on your last day.
Oh yeah -- let me know if you have any leftover swag.
I read goldenhammer's blog and he makes it clear that he ends up with $2.5k instead of a $12k package as indicated on the Bodog clause. I do wonder, what happens to those packages?
Swag is ALWAYS good!
Hopefully you can keep Tina away from the shoe store. She's almost as bad as The Wife (Doc Chako's).
Heh
Have fun!
Yeah, women drinking wine and then going shopping is usually a bad combination, especially when the purchase is more wine. My sister-in-law talked Stacie in to splitting a case after spending the day "tasting." Say hello to a shitload of North Georgia's finest, LOL. I don't know which was worse, the hangover or the buyer's remorse she had by the time she got home.
who is this california jen who will be covering me?
(resisting off color joke)
I don't know whether goldenhammer's assessment is correct or not, but frankly, it should be.
This should have been a way to get a blogger IN THE MAIN EVENT, and not just some $10k tourney. So yeah, if he had no intention to want to go, he shouldn't have played in the series, and possibly taken away a seat from a blogger who would have played at and blogged about it. That was kinda the whole point of this series -- it wasn't just some silly FTP bracelet race.
So yeah, I hope he does only get the $2,500. Unless he changes his mind and actually plays, then I hope he takes the whole thing down.
There were a lot of us railing that Bodonkey ToC who would have given a nut to get to play in the WSOP ME.
